Benalmadena and the south coast of Spain is not renowned for a sophisticated cuisine due to a fairly poor traditional history. That said, the climate and location makes it one of the best areas to obtain the best fruit, vegetables and fish. Olive groves are typical for this area of the Costa del Sol and Olives influence the many flavors of the food dishes in the local restaurants.
Malaga is famous throughout Spain for its mixture of fresh fried fish dish. Other seafood dishes include baby squid [chupitos] , clams [almejas] and mussels [mejillones]. Typically you find these stewed, grilled or cooked on open barbecues in the mid summer.
Meats include air dried hams [often seen hanging in the local shops], smoked sausages, rabbit and kid.
The most authentic dish in this area of Spain is Tapas. These are typically served in Tapas bars throughout the backstreets of the Costas.
